Williams would represent all county residents

| April 17, 2022 1:00 AM

I had the pleasure of attending a small intimate event that was hosted by Asia Williams at Eichardt’s in Sandpoint on March 25 and had a very pleasant engaging conversation with her and the others who attended. I was surprised to see that some people were strongly opposed to the venue selected. I am surprised the people opposed to using this location claimed that this is “enemy territory.”

Essentially threatening to dictate where public forums can be held. I was disheartened to hear that people want Asia to only host her events at “approved” venues. We need to remember that elected officials are meant to represent all members of our community, not just the people who already are going to vote for candidates.

The goal of campaigning is to reach out, share a platform and spread understanding of intention. People lose sight of the fact that it is important to reach out to groups that might not know about what one has to offer to Bonner County.

It is beneficial for candidates like Asia to host events in spots where she might have the opportunity to reach residents that she might not reach at a “conservative-approved” venue. We need to stop divisive thought processes and remember that we are all part of this community, any elected official represents all of us; what happens on one side happens to ALL sides.
