POST FALLS — Junior Maren Davidson shaved 10 seconds off her time in the 800 meters event at the Christina Finney Co-Ed Relays at Post Falls High School to place second in the event.

“She was not happy with her Pasco time,” Sandpoint track coach Matt Brass said. “From the gun today she was confident and got what she wanted out of it.”

The girls finished in fifth place and the boys finished in fourth at the relays.

“All-in-all, we had really solid results,” Brass said. “We had some wind gusts up to 25 miles per hour, but even with that I felt like our results were on par with how they should be.”

Rusty Lee continued his dominance in the 300 meter hurdles, finishing in first place with a time of 40.18.

Senior Luke McCorkle finished in second place with a time of 42.13. This was McCorkle’s first time competing in the event this season.

“He’ll do it a couple more times,” Brass said. “(Luke) is pretty versatile and we’re just trying to find out what his best four events are going to be.”

Will Hurst set a personal record in the shot put, throwing 45 feet and seven inches. He also set a season record in discus, throwing 148 feet and two inches.

The senior is feeling more and more comfortable with each event as he heals from a knee injury.

“The big thing is that he gets more turns and more throws,” Brass said. “So that way he feels really comfortable once regionals and state hits.”

Ben Ricks had a first place finish in the 800 meters event with a time of 2:03.11.

“He was really aggressive and took the lead right from the gun and kept it,” Brass said. “Even though there were strong headwinds, he was aggressive and knew what he wanted to do.”

Senior Destiny Lyons finished second in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 50.63, which was a season record for her.

After each meet Lyons figures out what she needs to fix in order to get better and corrects it before every meet.

“She has these things that she wants to work on after every race,” Brass said. “She’ll pick out things that she felt slowed her down and she does a good job of adjusting. I saw some adjustments today even after Pasco, which was only three days ago.”

Finally, the girls distance runners, Ara Clark and Megan Oullman finished in fourth and fifth place, respectively, in the 1600 meters.

Clark finished with a time of 5:36.46 and Oullman had a time of 5:37.29, both of which were season records.

“We were happy with them being at that 5:30 mark,” Brass said. “Those kids each put in probably over 500 miles of training this winter, so it’s nice to see it pay off.”

The Sandpoint track team will be in action again on Saturday at the Priest River Invitational.
