BONNERS FERRY — The Priest River baseball team couldn’t overcome errors in its doubleheader loss to Intermountain League foe Bonners Ferry on Saturday.

The Badgers defeated the Spartans 37-1, 10-0.

“We do things right at times, but we don’t do it enough,” Priest River baseball coach Mark Schultz said. “We’re just a young team and make mistakes at the wrong time.”

Bonners Ferry started off the first half of the first inning in the opener by scoring 12 runs, none of which were earned.

“We just kind of freeze a bit and then mistakes happen,” Schultz said. “We just have to rebound and play more games.”

Priest River (2-12, 0-8) pitchers walked nine and hit 13 batters in the first game. Everett Hannah struck out eight in 4.2 innings in the second game.

Trey Bateman and Roger Naylor teamed on a one-hitter in the opener, and Tiegan Banning fanned eight in a one-hitter in the nightcap.

In the first game, Banning doubled and tripled and went 4 for 6 with four RBIs and four runs scored for Bonners Ferry (8-10, 5-3 IML). Trey Bateman was 3 for 6 with four RBIs and four runs scored for the Badgers, and Blake Rice doubled and drove in four runs. Naylor and Bo Bateman each drove in four runs.

In the second game, Rice went 3 for 4 with a triple and two RBIs.

On Tuesday, Priest River travels to Timberlake, and Bonners Ferry plays host to Kellogg, in IML doubleheaders.
