April 26, 1972 – PTA ELECTS
Farmin Washington PTA will hold a vaudeville show May 5-6 to raise money for the Bonner Education scholarship fund, started 14 years ago by Mrs. Dora Pennington. Officers were elected: Mrs. Frank Lee is president; Mrs. Bob Warwick, vice president; Mrs. John Bolser, treasurer; and Shelda Watts, secretary.

JUNIOR GIRLS UNIT ELECTS OFFICERS
Junior Girls Unit to V.F.W. Post No. 2453 met Tuesday, electing officers and inducting new member Janet Lee Dexter. New officers are: President, Dixie Leonard; Senior vice president, Ruby Roberts; junior vice president Peggy Jo Clark; treasurer Jakie Smith; chaplain Penny Roberts; conductress Sandra Dingman and guard Janet Lee Dexter. The auxiliary and post asked the girls to assist with poppy sales.

FFA MEMBERS WIN CHOICE SCHOLARSHIPS
Two SHS FFA members, Norm Hayes and Barry Johnson, have won $400 scholarships. Hayes’ grant is from the Union Pacific, while Johnson won one of the four Standard Oil scholarships awarded in Idaho.

SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL NEWS
Beginning art class students are drawing objects from photos, says student teacher Mr. Ward Tollbom.
Jim DeMers, in 1929, was the nation’s first high school athlete to throw a javelin over 200 feet. Mr. DeMers donated his javelin to SHS, where it is on display in the gym. Booster Club will have a plaque made commemorating him.

April 26, 1922 – ARMSTEADS ARE SHIPPING ORE
The highway from Talache to Sagle has been put in shape for mine traffic and last Wednesday the Armstead mine started trucking to Sagle for the East Helena smelter and after this a carload will be shipped every other day. Four trucks are plying between Talache and Sagle, in the handling of the output.

BOARD APPEALS TO PARENTS OF GIRLS
The parents of girls attending high school including the seventh and eighth grades, have the past week received circular letters, signed by the president and superintendent of the city schools, asking for their cooperation in dress reform among the girls. The trend of the circular is aimed in particular at the wearing of sheer silk stocking, rolled stockings, skirts too short, and waists too scant or transparent.

BOY SCOUT RALLY HERE NEXT MONTH
The big two-county Boy Scout rally takes place at the Humbird ball park in this city on May 5-7. Fully 100 Scouts are expected, besides the Sandpoint troops.

TO CELBRATE GRANT’S BIRTHDAY
The members of the Grand Army of the Republic, W.R.C, War Mothers, American Legion and their Auxiliary will meet at the Legion hall Thursday evening when a program will be put on in memory of the one hundredth anniversary of the birth of Gen. U.S. Grant.
