The Sandpoint High School Girls Lacrosse team defeated Richland-Hanford and Three Rivers in league play on Saturday, April 23.

The Bulldogs defeated Richland-Handford in the first game 11-5, and beat Three Rivers 10-5.

Despite having to play two games in one day due to a scheduling issue, along with a short sideline, the Bulldogs performed well.

“Our players dug deep and really played smart lacrosse on Saturday,” Sandpoint girls lacrosse coach Nancy Dooley said. “We pretty much got out ahead in the first few minutes of both games and never really looked back.”

Sandpoint’s game against Richland-Hanford was a physical game despite the score differential. Several players on each team spent time in the penalty area.

Senior goalie Sarah Casey had 23 saves between the two games.

“Sarah was phenomenal in the goal again this week,” Dooley said. “She bounced back from a tough loss against the Spokane Stealth team a few nights earlier and was aggressive with her saves and clears,” Dooley said.

Sandpoint fell to Richland the last time they met, by one point.

“When we played them for the first time, we hadn’t been able to practice on a field yet,” Dooley said. “We also had some new players who had never seen a lined field. Hopefully next year we can get out on the turf earlier.”

Six players shared scoring honors – Audrey Anderson and Rowan Davis scored two goals, Alexis Downs chipped in four, Cassidy Aitken and Mia Przybylski added one each.

In Sandpoint’s second game of the day against Three Rivers, Sandpoint’s goal-leader Alexis Down scored five goals.

Cassidy Aitken, Mia Przybylski, Audrey Anderson, Terra Bode and Rowan Davis each contributed one goal a-piece.

“Three Rivers’ goalie had a great day,” Dooley said. “We probably should have scored quite a few more goals but she worked hard to try to keep them in the game.”

Dooley praised the defensive efforts from Eva Sloan and Laura Boge in both games along with Terra Bode at center midfielder.

The Bulldogs improved to 4-3 overall on the season.

Sandpoint will next travel to play Georgetown Prep today.

The Bulldogs next home game will be at 6 p.m. on Monday, May 2 at War Memorial Field against Mead.
