SANDPOINT — For over 20 years, Schweitzer’s "Own the Night" Program has helped local non-profits raise some much-needed funds during the winter season.

The concept is simple – for each twilight skiing ticket sold, half the proceeds are shared with selected area non-profits. For the 2021-’22 winter season, Schweitzer was able to contribute nearly $50,000 to 10 different organizations.

“Each winter, we select a few organizations to be the beneficiaries of our Own the Night program,” Jade Smith, resort services director, said. “Then, when guests purchase a twilight skiing ticket online, they can choose which organization they would like to support. It’s been a great way for some of our local clubs, schools, and youth organizations to get a much-needed financial boost during the winter.”

Schweitzer’s twilight skiing operation typically begins during the Christmas holidays and continues on Friday and Saturday evenings throughout the rest of the season until mid-March.

“We had 26 twilight skiing sessions this year with nearly 5000 visitors overall,” Smith said. “Twilight skiing is really a staple of our local community and knowing that these skiers and riders are helping our non-profits by simply buying a ticket is an amazing thing. It’s a win-win for everyone.”

Schweitzer plans on offering the Own the Night program again next season with the final list of participating non-profits available in December of 2022.

Independently owned, Schweitzer is ranked as one of the nation’s top winter destinations with 2,900 acres of terrain. Not to be overlooked is Schweitzer's robust summer season with miles of hiking and mountain biking trails and a variety of other activities making it the hub for outdoor recreation in the area.
