Bulldogs golf team finishes second at Moscow Invite

MOSCOW — The fall sports season officially kicked off with the Sandpoint golf team traveling to Moscow on Monday for the 2022 Moscow Invitational.

Coeur d’Alene won the tournament for the boys with a score of 308. The Sandpoint boys finished in second place with a final score of 340.

The Vikings also hoisted the team trophy for the girls, with the Bulldogs finishing in second place.

The boys finished ahead of both 4A Inland Empire League foes Moscow and Lakeland.

The Bulldogs etched out the Bears by 33 strokes and the Hawks by 37 strokes.

Joey Aexel, the returning 4A Idaho State qualifier, led the boys team with a final score of 78, which was only five strokes back from tournament winner Luke West from Coeur d’Alene.

Carson Miller finished with the second lowest score for the Bulldogs, finishing with a score of 87.

Taylor Corbell and Max Hosfeld rounded up the boys team with scores of 90 and 92, respectively.

The girls, who earned a state bid during the spring, also finished ahead of both Lakeland and Moscow.

Aubrey Scheffler led the pack for the girls, finishing with a score of 91. Taylor Mire wasn’t too far behind her with a score of 92.

Demi Driggs, who spent some time on the shelf during the spring, finished two strokes behind Scheffler with a score of 93.

Alexa Tuinstra, the final member of the girls team, finished with a score of 99.

Julia Brume from Lewiston earned medalist honors for the girls with a score of 84.

The Sandpoint High School golf team will be back in action again on Monday, August 22 at the Lewiston Invitational.
