When you abandon facts, you get junk science

| August 25, 2022 1:00 AM

In his letter of April 12, Jack DeBaun falsely stated that “Monte Heil … questions whether or not science really proves anything.” It was a false statement because I do not question that real science really does prove things. Beginning his letter with a false statement leads us to question the truthfulness of the rest of his letter.

What we do see in the rest of Jack’s letter is a cult-like adherence to theoretical science. In his version of “science,” nothing is certain or absolute. And here we must ask, is he absolutely certain of that?

I have already proven in a previous letter that Jack exists. Yet, according to his beliefs, there could come a time when “science” might show, with “pertinent evidence,” that he never existed after all. Anyone who doesn’t see this as nonsense needs to have their head examined. Living life without certainty can easily lead to mental health issues.

In Jack’s junk version of science, there could conceivably come a time when Earth could be found to be flat after all. And then, a hundred years later, it could be found to be round again. Such is the nature of Jack’s uncertain “science.” Nothing is certain, nothing is absolute.

Facts are characterized by certainty, whereas theories are characterized by uncertainty. And facts do not change, but theories do. There are several steps in the scientific method, theory being only one of them. When you abandon the factual for the theoretical you end up with junk science.

MONTE HEIL
