Priest River came out fighting from the start but Sandpoint ran away with it from the second quarter on to win 81-47.

The Spartans made a couple shots to get the game rolling Saturday with Tyler Engelson hitting two three-pointers and Sawyer Staudt hitting one. Teigan Marinello and Jace Yount also contributed in the first quarter.

Everything started to settle for Sandpoint as the Bulldogs got their footing with two three-pointers from Max Frank. Also helping the Bulldogs were a pair of buckets from Rusty Lee, and help at the basket from Parker Pettie with two point, and Parker Childs with five.

“It took us a bit of time to get the kinks out,” Sandpoint coach Brian Childs said.

The Bulldogs were up 18-13 at the end of the first quarter.

Sandpoint went on a run in the second quarter with contribution from Pettit, Lee, Frank, and Childs. Emerick Jone chimed in with eight points. The Bulldogs scored a solid 25 points to Priest Lakes seven.

“We shot the ball well,” Childs said. “We focused on sharing the ball and making the right play.”

Priest River trailed 43-20 at halftime.

The Spartans stepped up in the third quarter and scored across the board. Points came in from Lucas Matthews, Luke Butler, T. Marinello, Yount, and Zach Engelson. Priest River shot 15 to Sandpoints 19.

Sandpoint remained in the lead 62-35 heading into the final quarter.

Spartans Z. Engelson was six for six in free throws in the fourth quarter and 10 for 12 overall. But it would be Arie VanDenBerg, Ty Eacret, James Bopp, Kai Longanecker, Dallen Williams, and Sage Meideros to help seal the deal for the Bulldog win. Final score 81-47 for a Sandpoint win.

“A lot of guys were contributing today,” Childs said. “It was a good team effort.”

The Bulldogs play Bonners Ferry at home on Tuesday and Priest River travels to Lakeland.
