What is the rule on single license plates?

| December 29, 2022 1:00 AM

Rosanne Smith's letter (Daily Bee, Dec. 6) illustrated something I didn't know — that 20 other states require only a single license plate. I thought it was more like two or three states.

As for the fact that many newer rigs don't have a front mount, yes, that's true. But many, up to half do have one and they and still no plate. The lack of a front plate ranges across the board from sedans, SUVs and pickups. As I said, I did call the police station to ask and the woman at the time explicitly stated that two plates are required and if an officer sees them they would pulled over. However, I don't see this as vehicles would constantly be pulled over.

A week or so ago, I saw four cars in a row proceeding south on Fifth Avenue, stoped at the traffic light at the intersection with Cedar. All of them had front mountings.

I would like to see an article or police response on these pages about this issue as it seems some don't have to follow the current rules. Wonder if I'd be ignored or pulled over if I removed my front plate?
