Priest River’s girls basketball team finished the first quarter trailing Intermountain League foe Bonners Ferry 9-3, but the Badgers went on a huge second quarter spurt to put them up 35-8 at halftime.

Bonners Ferry then cruised to a 56-20 league victory over Priest River.

The Spartans were playing with just seven available players according to coach Gary Stewart.

“Aly Barton got hurt before the game and she’s one of her best post players,” Stewart said. “She had a concussion. Being down numbers really hurt us.”

Stewart praised his girl’s performance in the first quarter but said Badgers’ post Asha Abubakri took over in the second.

She finished with a team-high 15 points.

Spartans’ guard Sam Pound was making it look easy from 3-point land. She converted on three 3s and finished with a team-high 15 points. She was also feeling it from the free throw line where she was a perfect 6-for-6.

Bonners Ferry had two other scorers in double-figures, Marleynn Plurd had 12 and Aubry Bryer had 10.
