Bonners Ferry ends PR's season

| February 9, 2022 12:11 AM

BONNERS FERRY - Priest River’s girls basketball team was only down one at the end of the first quarter in a loser-out Class 3A district I game against Bonners Ferry but a 17 point second quarter run by the Badgers put a dagger in the Spartans’ season.

The Badgers defeated Priest River 54-27 on Tuesday at Bonners Ferry.

The Badgers pulled out to a 32-16 halftime lead and the Spratans ran out of gas.

“We couldn’t keep up with their posts,” Priest River girls basketball coach Gary Stewart said. “It was hard to keep them from scoring on the inside.”

The Spartans were only playing with six players on Tuesday, two were out sick and one was out with a concussion.

Stewart was impressed with how his girls played with a limited amount of bodies.

“They never complained or asked for a sub,” Stewart said. “They knew the task tonight and it was a huge one.”

Lilly Freitas paced Priest River with 11 points.

Makyla Pluid and Asha Abubakarki both had 12 points a piece for Bonners Ferry.

A full box score was not available at press time.
