The Sandpoint boys basketball team ended several droughts with its 58-56 Inland Empire League victory over Post Falls.

“It was tight the entire game,” Sandpoint boys basketball coach Brian Childs said. “We’d make a basket and then they’d match it up and that was the way the game went the entire way.”

The first drought this victory put to rest was Sandpoint's four year Inland Empire League losing streak.

The Bulldogs hadn't won a league game since Jan. 16 2016 against Moscow.

This also ends Sandpoint's remarkable 13 year losing streak to Post Falls.

The last time the Bulldogs had defeated the Trojans was 4,751 days ago on Feb. 7, 2009 54-47.

"It's been a long time coming," Childs said. "We've came close several times and to actually finally seal the deal is awesome."

Childs described the game as "A really good high school basketball game," Sandpoint would make a basket. Post Falls would answer. The Bulldogs would make a mistake; the Trojans would capitalize.

Sandpoint missed some free throws down the stretch, but after some solid defense in the final seconds the Bulldogs were able to finish the job.

Sandpoint had three scorers in double-figures. Parker Childs led with 14. Aerie VanDenBerg had 12, and Ethan Butler had 11.

“I mean, you talk about team wins and this was seriously one of those,” Childs said. “I’m just happy for our team, especially our seniors.”

Jacob Eldridge only notched three points on the night, but Childs was happy about his play on the defensive end.

"He had a really good stretch in the fourth quarter," Childs said. "He didn't contribute a whole lot of points but he was a monster on the boards and was blocking shots."

Sandpoint next plays Lake City at 7 p.m. on Friday at Lake City High School in Coeur d’Alene.
