Heavyweights win dual for Sandpoint

| February 11, 2022 11:07 PM

Sandpoint’s wrestling team was able to take down Moscow on the road 49-36 to be crowned 4A Inland Empire League champions.

The Bulldogs got off to a rough start losing its first three matches by fall but Forest Ambridge was able to light a spark at 126 with a pin over Moscow’s Kai Reynolds with five seconds remaining in the first period.

The heavier weights were where the dual was decided; the Bulldogs won every match from 160 through heavyweight.

Shane Sherrill also continued his winning streak that he’s on with a major decision victory at 138 over Moscow’s James Greene.

“You can tell he’s on a mission,” Sandpoint wrestling coach James Stark said. “You could tell from the look in our eyes we wanted it more than Moscow.”

Sandpoint will compete in the Class 4A District 1 tournament on Saturday Feb. 19 at 1 p.m. at Lakeland High school.
