Crafternoon class helps you learn through making

I love making stuff. My favorite things to make let me explore creatively while also building something that defies expectations. A simple plastic toy? What if we put magnets inside of it and hung it from a metal door frame?

Exploring innovation and your inner creative voice is what Crafternoon is all about. There’s plenty of time in life to create the most optimized object, the fastest object, the object best suited for completing a specific task - Crafternoon is about slowing down, making what you want to make, and seeing what it inspires you to make next!

Come join us at the library on Tuesday, Feb. 22 at 3 p.m. to create your very own cardboard automaton! What’s an automaton? It’s essentially a simple mechanical device that’s built to complete a task. Maybe that task is to spin a feather duster when the wind blows, or to showcase a scene where dancers move around whenever you turn a crank.

This might sound complicated, but you will be surprised and delighted by how simple it is to make your very own, and how quickly you may be inspired to build an even more complex one once you learn the basics. Just about every mechanical device in our lives is designed similarly to even the most basic cardboard automata.

This event is catered primarily toward kids, but is capable of scaling in complexity for adults as well, allowing parents to learn right alongside their children. So come join us on Tuesday, February 22 at 3 p.m. We look forward to seeing you.
