NI Lakers 19U wins fifth in a row

The NI Lakers 19U legion team continued its winning streak by sweeping the Camas Prairie Zephyrs 18U.

The Lakers won the opener 12-0 and closed out the doubleheader with a 14-4 victory.

In the first game, the Lakers only needed to put in five innings of work to down the Zephyrs.

Its biggest inning came in the bottom of the second, where they scored eight runs.

The opening two runs came from triples by Alex Leverich and Cameron Garcia.

Leverich hit a line drive triple into left field that scored Mick Koch to give the Lakers the opening lead.

Following a Mike Riley walk, Garcia hit his triple to score Leverich and Ethan Butler, giving the NI Lakers a 3-0 advantage.

Garcia was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate. He added one single and a double.

Zeke Roop pitched a full game for the Lakers in the opener, notching a shutout.

In his five innings of work he allowed no runs off of four hits, striking out four and only walking two.

He also finished the first game with a .622 slugging percentage.

In the nightcap, the Lakers once again finished off the Zephyrs in just five innings.

Camas Prairie took the first lead of the ball game during the top of the first after scoring two runs.

Ryan Lockart hit an RBI single to score David Goicoa to give the Zephyrs the 1-0 advantage.

Following a fielder’s choice, Blake Schoo hit an RBI single to score Lockart.

The Lakers went on to score six runs in the bottom of the second to give them a 6-2 lead.

Jack Ringer tied the game following a two-run RBI single into left field.

The bats were hot for the Lakers during the night cap; they tallied 16 hits throughout the contest.

Roop went 2-for-2 with a triple and Butler went 3-for-4 with a double.

Ringer got the start on the mound and pitched a complete game. He gave up four runs on eight hits, striking out two.

Following the sweep, the NI Lakers 19U improved to 7-6 overall and improved their winning streak to five games.
