Writers at Harriman is taking applications

| June 8, 2022 1:00 AM

The writing camp for gifted high school writers, Writers at Harriman, still has a few slots open for the 2022 camp.

This year’s camp will run July 31 through Aug. 6 at Harriman State Park. The teaching writers include short story writer Christian Winn, former Idaho Writer in Residence; Nicole LeFavour, who is a novelist, essayist, and poet; Dwayne Blackaller, a playwright and teacher for the Idaho Shakespeare Festival; and Sherry Briscoe, a popular writer of mystery and suspense novels. Students will also learn storytelling from Jessica Holmes, one of the founders of Boise’s Story, Story, Night.

Campers will have time to explore the park looking for moose, trumpeter swans, elk, and sandhill cranes. Horseback riding and nature hikes will round out the week.

Camp Director Rick Just said that applicants are selected for their interest in writing.

“We keep the tuition very low so that more people can attend. We especially want to recruit students from smaller schools.” Some scholarships are available. The application deadline is June 15.
