SANDPOINT — The master document guiding growth and development in Bonner County is under review.

Generational issues, economic diversity, temporary vacation homes, biking trails, and population density were among the topics the seven-member board discussed on Tuesday.

A comprehensive plan is a document that functions as the master plan guiding where growth and development should occur in a given area. The document guides the ordinances and policies passed and enforced by the county’s Zoning Commission.

Twelve of the 15 components of Bonner County’s comprehensive plan were divided among the commissioners for detailed review on May 3. Tuesday’s meeting featured the commissioners’ proposed changes to the comprehensive plan.

Keeping the text of the comprehensive plan strictly to matters regarding land use was often deliberated during the three-hour-long meeting. Component’s covered at Tuesday’s meeting included transportation overall as well as specifically for schools as well as economic development.

“Maybe because I came from one of the sub area groups. I want the sub area people to look at these things and recognize, ‘Ahh, they listened to us,’” Commissioner Dave Frankenbach said while discussing economic development.

Deliberations, while about certain topics, were mainly focused on determining the exact wording and verbiage that will be adopted into the comprehensive plan once changes are agreed upon.

Commissioners will continue to review the remaining components of the comprehensive plan at upcoming meetings until the entire document has been covered.

Although Tuesday’s meeting was open to the public, it was not scheduled as a workshop therefore the commission did not hear any public comment.

Those interested in providing feedback to the Planning Commission can find members’ contact information on the county website at BonnerCountyID.gov/planning-commission.
