SANDPOINT — Bonner County commissioners addressed essential decisions regarding county functions at Tuesday’s weekly business meeting.

Compared to recent past meetings, the meeting saw a larger variety of departments bring forward items for the commission’s approval.

A major point at Tuesday’s meeting saw the approval of $2,896,505.95 in county money for claims and demand batch spending. Claims and demand batch spending, simplified, are the routine bills, costs, and purchases needed to maintain county services, including those from emergency medical services.

The commission also approved the destruction of election ballots from six years ago. Both items were brought before the commissioners by the Clerk’s Office.

Risk Management gained approval to allow the College of Southern Idaho to utilize the Priest River Risk Management facility for the Idaho Star Motorcycle Safety Program.

Justice services brought two memorandum of agreements before the commission. One supporting clinical services in the juvenile detention center, and another supporting both the Community Based Alternative Services Program and the Substance Use Disorder Services. Commissioners approved both agreements.

Both Planning and Road & Bridge gained approval from the commission for smaller projects regarding the maintenance and standards of county roads.

Assistance gained the commission's approval in bringing county code in line with recent state code change. The change will no longer allow individuals to seek county aid in paying medical bills. Those who are found “medically indigent” will have to resort to other options when it comes to paying their medical expenses.

Four items were addressed during executive session. Two items were brought by the Human Resources department, one regarding hiring, and another regarding personnel. The remaining two items regarded litigation. According to information gathered from the meeting’s agenda, one of the litigation items was brought by Davillier Law Group involving a settlement agreement.
