Lakers 19U splits games over weekend

The NI Lakers 19U baseball team split its two games during the weekend.

It dropped its first game on Saturday to the Bitteroot Bucs 10-6 and defeated Bonners Ferry 12-6 on Sunday.

On Saturday, the Bucs and Lakers finished the first inning tied at two runs apiece.

The Bucs went on to score eight unanswered runs over the next four innings.

The Lakers responded by scoring two runs in the top of the sixth.

Finn Mellander scored Ethan Butler with an RBI single down the second base line.

Avery Bocksch grounded out during the next at-bat, still scoring Trevor Brackett for the game's final margin.

Jack Ringer got the start on the mound. He went one and two thirds innings.

He gave up six runs on three hits, striking out one and walking six.

Butler came in relief of Ringer, finishing out the game. He gave up four runs on four hits, striking out five.

Sunday’s win against Bonners Ferry snapped the Lakers’ four-game losing streak.

The Lakers scored all 12 of its runs in the opening inning.

In the top of the first, the NI Lakers scored four straight runs off of RBI.

Alex Bocksch got it started with an RBI single that scored Avery Bocksch.

Zach Leverich next hit an RBI single down the left field line to score Kody MacDonald.

Mick Koch was next up to bat and he hit an RBI single to score Bocksch to take a 4-0 lead.

Butler hit the fourth RBI in a row to score Leverich.

The Lakers scored five more runs on walks during the top of the first.

The Lakers cycled through four pitchers during six innings of play.

Mike Riley started the game and pitched one and a third innings, giving up no runs on two hits, striking out two.

Avery Bocksch came in relief of Riley, and pitched two thirds of an inning, giving up four runs on five hits, striking out two.

Leverich was next, he went two innings and gave up four runs on five hits, striking out two.

MacDonald closed out the final two innings where he gave up one run off of four hits striking out three.

The NI Lakers 19U improved to 4-6 overall on the season.
