David Lyle Hansen
David Lyle Hansen was born February 7, 1945, in Tacoma, Washington, to Thelma Finley Hansen Johnson and Joseph Hansen.
He joined siblings Connie, Shirley and Jared as the youngest child spanning 20 years between oldest and youngest. He grew up in Salt Lake City until his mom and stepfather settled in Molalla, Oregon, where he graduated high school in 1963.
Just a short time after graduation he joined the Marine Corps and was promised a position in the first Marine Airwing. After boot camp and assorted classes, he was sent to Vietnam at Chu Lai and Quang Nam, Da Nang as flight equipment/parachute rigger, and until he was discharged in 1967. During his military service, David Lyle served with USMC VMA 311, VMA 214 and VMA 224.
While serving at USMC El, Toro, he met his sweetheart Peggy Sue Tassie. After a whirlwind romance comprised of six months, seven dates and lots of phone calls and love letters, they eloped on Easter Sunday, March 26, 1967, at Cupid’s Chapel in Las Vegas. Soon thereafter his children arrived, Dan in 1968, Bruce in 1971 and Tami in 1973.
They reared their family in Marysville, Washington, “Davey” worked at Scott Paper Company/Kimberley Clark as a large machinery mechanic by day and avid boater, stained glass artist and music appreciator by night. He enjoyed fishing in Nootka, making others laugh with his mischievous antics, tailgating at Husky games, cruising with the Mosquito Fleet and sharing his unique musical talents at the Baumert Reunions. He and Peggy “Susie” retired to Sagle, Idaho, around 2011 to the family property overlooking Gamlin Lake. Life became beautiful sunsets and amazing views! His best life was spent on the porch with the view, stiff drink in hand holding onto his “hon” and singing his favorites to her.
He leaves behind his bride of 55 years; pride and joy of his three children and their partners, Dan (Jill), Bruce (Nancy), Tami (Bradley); five beloved grandchildren, Lydia, Luke, Guinevere, Kyan and Jude; his brother, Jared; sister, Shirley; and numerous nieces, nephews, friends, cousins and beautiful sunsets.
Though having been vaccinated and boosted, he passed peacefully and gracefully on February 23, 2022, surrounded by his children and sweetheart after a battle with COVID-19.
Two memorial services will be held. The first will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 23, 2022, at “Melrose” 235 Glengary Bay Road, Sagle. The second will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 11, 2022, at Legion Hall, Legion Park, Everett, Washington.
