TJ Davis wins national championship

Sandpoint alum and current Eastern Oregon sophomore TJ Davis capped off his indoor track season with a national championship.

Davis earned gold in the heptathlon at the NAIA indoor track and field national championships on Friday at the Jackrabbit athletic complex in Brookings, South Dakota.

The NAIA national championships took place between Thursday March 3 and Friday March 4.

Davis began his run at the national championships with a fourth place finish in the 60 meter race.

After that, he earned back-to-back first place finishes in the long jump and shot put.

He finished Thursday with a fourth place finish in the high jump.

On Friday, Davis got started with a first place finish in the 60 meter hurdles, running an 8.24.

He finished fifth in the pole vault, his worst performance of the meet.

He capped off the heptathlon with a second place finish in the 1000 meter run, running a 2:41.42.

Davis ended the meet with 5439 points to earn the top spot on the podium.

He edged out Carroll’s Lee Walburn from Carroll by 55 points.

This is Davis’ first national championship victory, which will give him momentum as he heads towards the outdoor track and field season.
