RATHDRUM — Taylor Mire shot a personal best 86 during the Lakeland Invitational at the Links Golf Course on Friday.

The Sandpoint girls golf team finished third overall with a score of 393.

“(Taylor) Mire was the star of the day,” Sandpoint golf coach Mike Deprez said. “She had a nice day in challenging conditions.”

The girls team finished ahead of both Moscow and Lakeland at the event.

The Bulldogs finished 13 strokes ahead of the Bears and 43 strokes ahead of the Hawks.

“The entire town of Sandpoint should be getting excited about Bulldogs golf,” Deprez said. “Make sure you have your antennas ready on Monday for districts.”

The next event for the Sandpoint golf team is the district meet at the University of Idaho’s Golf Course on Monday.

Claire Loutzenhiser also set a personal best with a score of 106.

“She went from shooting in the 120s to 106,” Deprez said. “It shows potential for the future and that makes me excited.”

The boys finished in seventh place overall with a score of 348.

Merek Bauck rebounded after some tough meets by scoring a personal-best 80.

“His hard work is finally starting to pay off,” Deprez said. “He took six strokes off his personal best and his contributions to the team are finally starting to pay off.”

Jacob Gove was just one stroke behind Bauck with a score of 81.

The Bulldogs finished behind Lakeland and Moscow, but not by much. They were four strokes behind Lakeland and 22 strokes behind Moscow.

“My optimism is still very high,” Deprez said. “Their (Moscow and Lakeland) scores haven’t changed very much, but we’re starting to crystalize our game. We’ll see what happens.”
