Reality goes virtual at the library

You’ve probably noticed that solitary glass-walled room tucked away at the edge of the library. It may have seemed like a sad little space, forgotten by time. No longer!

The virtual reality room will be back open on Saturday, May 14 from 1-4 p.m. This date just so happens to coincide with Sandemonium, which we will be hosting at the Sandpoint Library. Stop by for a 15-minute session in virtual reality, offering a multitude of experiences from a terrifying plank walk at the top of a building to a calming observation of wildlife at the bottom of the ocean. Perhaps you’d like to take up some virtual archery or load packages onto a slingshot and fire them across a factory floor. We even have access to some fun and colorful design programs that allow you to create things in three dimensions with a variety of materials.

That’s not all — beginning Thursday, May 19, the VR room will be available for walk-ins from 3-5 p.m. every Thursday. It will be open to everyone age 10 and older — if you have children under 10 who wish to use VR, we require the parent to be present in the room for the child’s session.

If you try the VR, but there aren’t any programs that really interest you, please let us know! Our goal at the library is to expand the virtual reality experience to benefit everyone, and we need your input to make that happen.

I hope to see you at Sandemonium!
