K & K BUTTON No. 459 WORTH $10

Persons with 1972 Kamloops and Kokanee Week buttons numbered 1 - 500 will have a chance to win $10 or more each week for the next five weeks. Dick Whittaker and Ken Boehm, co-chairmen of the K & K button committee, said the committee will pick a new number between 1 and 500 each Tuesday and the person owning the button with that number has until the next Monday at 5 p.m. to claim a $10 prize. If the number is not claimed by the deadline, a new number will be drawn and the unclaimed $10 added to the next week’s prize. In this manner, $50 will be given away over the next five weeks. May 12, 1922 – FIRE TAKES WESTMOND STORE

The William J. Reid store at Westmond was entirely destroyed by fire early Wednesday evening. The store building was a one-story frame approximately 30x50, one side of which Mr. Reid and his family used as living quarters. Mr. Reid bought the store last winter from Mr. Skavland. Much of the household furniture and personal effects and some store stock was saved.

ANNUAL FIELD EVENT

The preliminaries to the athletic meet were held at Humbird field Saturday morning and the finals in the afternoon. Some events were marked by unusual performances, among them the way Carl Eckholm put the 12 pound shot, making almost 30 feet; the speed and form made by Rodney Muzzy in the quarter mile run; and the ease with which Kenneth Shook took the half mile run. The boys’ high jump was also a hard battle, Ted Farmin of Sandpoint losing by 1 inch to Elton Widger of Kootenai. The best girls’ event was the 75 yard dash, a tie between Cecilia Greenfield of Sandpoint and Gertrude Flezette of Wrencoe, the former winning in a run-off race at the end of the meet.
