Fourth and sixth inning routs Priest River

KELLOGG — Kellogg scored a combined 14 runs in the fourth and sixth inning en route to a 17-7 Class 3A district 1 victory over Priest River.

“We just racked up some errors and a couple of walks,” Priest River softball coach Ron Kruse said. “We dropped a couple fly balls and we were throwing the ball all over.”

Kellogg’s Kalyca Card hit a one-run homer in the bottom of the second inning for the WIldcats’ first run of the day.

The Spartans out-hit Kellogg 11-9. Jaylein Zylstra and Brodie Hansen both had three knocks apiece. Hansen also notched a double.

Alex Karst, Macy Jerome, Kalyca Card all notched two hits for Kellogg.

Lilly Freitas got the start on the mound. She threw 141 pitches and struck out six and walked eight.

The Spartans will play Bonners Ferry in a loser-out game today at Priest River High School at 4 p.m. The Wildcats will play Timberlake in the Class 3A district 1 championship game tomorrow at Timberlake High School.
