BOISE — Tyler Korn and Cayden Kindred fell in their semi-finals match at the Class 4A Idaho state tennis tournament against Bonneville’s Dawson Belnap and Jamison Lemon 6-2, 6-4 at the Boise Racquet Club.

“That was the match of the day,” Sandpoint tennis coach Kent Anderson said. “Cayden broke his strings off his racket after the third set.”

Kindred broke his main racket during day one of the state tournament on Friday. On Saturday, he broke his backup.

He had to use Korn’s backup racket to finish out the second half of the third set.

“It makes a big difference when you don’t have your own racket,” Anderson said. “It takes a while to get used to the different weights and swings.”

The duo ended up falling in the third set 6-4, but Korn and Kindred gave it all they had in the end.

“It was really too bad that they lost because they played incredibly well,” Anderson said. “It was like four college players going at it. It was dead even the entire way, they were so close to winning it all.”

In the consolation bracket, the duo dropped its final match of the day against Middleton’s Marshall Short, and Sam Swing.

“They just didn’t have the same mojo after the first match,” Anderson said. “They poured everything into their match with Bonneville and it ended up costing them in the end.”

Neva Reseska, who entered today still in contention for a state medal in the consolation bracket, fell in a loser-out game to Ridgeview’s Erin Smith 7-5, 6-2.

“(Maise) Brazill ran into (Erin) Smith in the first round,” Anderson said. “She was in a good position to win; she had a really good first set. She just had such a difficult playing style to compete against.”

The Bulldogs performance at the state tournament gives Anderson confidence for the future.

“We were right there with everyone,” Anderson said. “I was enthused with how everyone played and almost everyone is coming back. It is such a joy working with this team. It keeps me fired up to coach.”
