SHS students earn Elks academic honors

Sandpoint Elks Lodge No. 1376 has announced students of the month for Sandpoint High School.

Selected were John Keegan, Justice W. Parkinson, Ashlee Webster, Lucinda Meshberg, Davalie Terry, and Aidam Smith.

To be selected as an Elks student of the month, students must meet guidelines for character, citizenship, service, scholarship and leadership.

The Elks actively seek to reward youth through many different programs including scholarship awards, Hoop Shoot tournaments, dictionary donations to third graders, drug awareness programs and many other activities and programs.

Sandpoint Elks Lodge award thousands of dollars in scholarships and local students also received an additional money in state and national Elk scholarships. The Elks are the third largest awarder of scholarships in the county and several students have received large scholarships from the state and national level of Elks.

John Keegan

The son of Ellen Susnis, John Susnis Keegan is among the Sandpoint High School students receiving honors for their academic achievements with student of the month honors.

John Keegan is a Sandpoint High School senior who plans to attend University of Idaho for mechanical engineering next fall. He enjoys exploring the area on his bikes and taking photos of the nature that surrounds Sandpoint. At school, he participates in acting, choir, Business Professionals of America, and the ultimate frisbee club that he helped create.

He has a weighted GPA of 4.32, and he is ranked eighth in the class of 2022.

Justice W. Parkinson

Justice W. Parkinson is the son of Kaori Parkinson and John Parkinson and is among the Sandpoint High School students receiving honors for their academic achievements with student of the month honors.

Parkinson has a 3.95 unweighted and 4.34 weighted. He enjoys sports and he played soccer, ran track, cross country and plays volleyball outside of school. One of his achievements include his A+ certification.

He plans to attend Boise State University and study computer science with either an entrepreneur or cyber-security emphasis.  

Ashlee Webster

Ashlee Webster is the daughter of Ryan and Erin Webster and is among the Sandpoint High School students receiving honors for their academic achievements with student of the month honors.

Webster’s plans for next year include attending Idaho State University to either study secondary education with a focus on science or psychology. She has had a passion for psychology and sciences for quite some time, through her experiences with volunteering and work. Her activities include making pottery, adventuring outside, and snowboarding. In addition to these activities, she has been on the Sandpoint High School soccer team for four years and three out of the four she was on the varsity team.

She has received high honors and top scholar honors every year.

Webster maintains a non-weighted GPA of 4.0 and is ranked first in her class.

Lucinda Meshberg

The daughter of Kristen and Jason Meshberg, Lucinda Meshberg is among the Sandpoint High School students receiving honors for their academic achievements with student of the month honors.

A senior at Sandpoint High School, Meshberg has been involved in choir, theater, and human rights club for all four years of high school. This year, she is the president of the Mime and Masque club, and played the part of Grandma Joe in the "Willy Wonka" musical. After this year, she plans on taking another year of high school in Italy through the Rotary Club exchange program.

Davalie Terry

The daughter of Annie Terry and Donald Terry Address, Terry is among the Sandpoint High School students receiving honors for their academic achievements with student of the month honors.

For all of her four years at Sandpoint High school, Davalie Terry always had a passion for creating media content, and her junior and senior year was a part of the student run news site team, the Cedar Post. During her junior year she was the Social Media Editor, while her senior year she became the co-editor in chief.

She medaled second place in her category for the Idaho State Drama Competition her sophomore year.

Additionally, Terry competed in the Distinguished Young Women Program her junior year, and won the scholastic, interview, and self expression categories, which led her to be named Sandpoint’s DYW for 2021. This program was able to get her more involved with community service, which let her get the opportunity to make dog toys for Better Together Animal Alliance, make Valentine’s Day cards for the residents at Luther Park, participate in the Days For Girls service project, and even collect and donate much needed supplies for Kinderhaven.

Aidan Smith

A senior at Sandpoint High School, Aidan Smith is among the Sandpoint High School students receiving honors for their academic achievements with student of the month honors.
