McDaniel earns five medals at community track meet

Sandpoint Parks and Rec, along with partners and volunteers geared up for the Free Community track meet on Friday, May 6.

Boys and girls aged 6-12 competed in various events during the meet ranging from 50 meter hurdles to the discus throw.

In the 6-8 year old class, Anastasia Aispuro and Matthew McDaniel dominated the 50 meter sprint and hurdles events.

Aispuro took first place in both events, posting an 11.97 in the hurdles and a 9.31 in the 50 meter dash.

McDaniel finished the sprint in 7.84 and the hurdles in 9.55.

Aispuro wasn’t done collecting gold during the Free Community track meet; the youngster ended with a first place finish in the 200 meter race with a time of 43.70. Breecyn Morton finished the event with two gold medals in the girls 11-12 class.

Her first gold came in the softball “putt” event where she threw 81 feet and seven inches. She finished things off with a first place finish in the long jump with a leap of 11 feet and six inches.

Olivia Betz notched first place finishes in the 800 meter event and the 200 meter event in the girls 9-10 class.

In the 200 meter race she finished with a time of 33.80. In the 800 meter race, she finished with a time of 2:50.70.

Thomas McDaniel finished in first place during the 200 meter dash for the boys 11-12 division. He finished with a time of 34.59. He also earned gold in the 800 meter race with a time of 2:56.75.

McDaniel went on to get a hat trick, earning his third gold medal of the meet in the 1600 meter race. He finished the mile with a time of 6:08.98.

Matthew McDaniel ended the day with the most first place finishes, coming away with five gold medals.

After his performance in the 50 meter sprint and hurdles, he went on to receive a gold medal in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:22,76. For his fourth gold medal, he finished first in the long jump event leaping nine feet and nine inches.

He finished his gold chase with the discus event where he threw 32 feet and 10 and a half inches.
