TEXACO FEATURES SCHWEITZER MODEL

Hal Riese has the only alpine-appearing Texaco service station in the west at 415 Cedar Street [Note: In 2022, the Cedar Street Hotel and Suites]. After taking over the station from Beaner Johnson several years ago, Riese turned part of the existing building into an A-frame. Well-known artist Russ Kotschevar then created the station’s crowning decoration, a fiberglass topographical replica of the Schweitzer and Colburn basins, including all the draws and slopes of the mountain area, even the small lake at the top of Colburn basin. The replica was put together over forms in the loft of Sandpoint Marina, and after raising it into position, Kotschevar went up the ladder to apply the finishing touches.
