OLDTOWN — A female juvenile was killed, a male juvenile critically injured and their grandmother injured after they were struck while walking on a dirt pedestrian pathway on Friday shortly before 5 p.m.

Idaho State Police said the driver of a Chevrolet Tahoe, a 23-year-old male from Newport, Wash., struck the three pedestrians who were walking on a dirt pedestrian pathway located behind homes near E. Valley Street South in Oldtown at about 4:50 p.m. The path is not open to motorized traffic, area residents said.

The vehicle then overturned and came to a rest on the side of the road in a residential lawn. The driver fled the scene on foot but was located after a short time by law enforcement officers and transported to a nearby hospital via ground ambulance.

The pedestrians, a juvenile female, was pronounced deceased on scene, and a juvenile male in critical condition was transported to a nearby hospital by ground ambulance. The third pedestrian, the 50-year-old grandmother of the two children, was transported to a nearby hospital via ground ambulance. All of the pedestrians were from Oldtown.

Next of kin has been notified.

The roadway was shut down for approximately five hours to allow first responders to clear the roadway and conduct a thorough investigation.

This incident remains under investigation by the Idaho State Police.
