SHS girls claim third at state, boys finish sixth

The cat's out of the bag when it comes to the Sandpoint golf team with the Bulldog girls claiming third place at the state tournament and the boys team finishing sixth in Idaho Falls on Saturday.
The Bulldogs shot a 664 over the two-day tournament
"The girls played phenomenal," Sandpoint coach Mike Deprez said. "Each girl had their score used at least once over the two days so all five girls contributed to the team's success. You know, I couldn't be happier with them."
In addition, Taylor Mire finished in the top 10 to earn a medal for the Bulldogs.
Deprez said the team's third-place finish is a credit to every member of the team.
"But our strength is always going to be our depth. It's not about just one great player," he added. "It's about having, you know, a team out there that practices and plays throughout the spring, summer and fall. And that's a great reason why we did so well."
In the boys tournament, Deprez said he was pleased with the Bulldogs's sixth-place finish.
"They did great," he added. "The boys did good. They finished sixth, which is a very good finish out there."
Deprez said it was good to be able to watch Bishop Kelly, which finished second, to see how they compare. Like Sandpoint, the Knights are a similarly young team.
"It was a great opportunity for us to see exactly how close we are and what we have to do," he added.
