Washington man arrested on meth charges

OLDTOWN — Washington resident Daniel Edward Inwood, 63, may be going to prison for drug trafficking.

Inwood was pulled over on Aug. 19, 2020 after a deputy caught him going nearly 70 mph in a 55 zone. Inwood told Bonner County Sheriff’s Deputy Justin Penn during the traffic stop that there was nothing illegal in the car, according to the probable cause affidavit.

However, when BCSO Deputy Tom Cimbalik arrived, his drug dog gave a “positive alert” for the vehicle, Penn said in the affidavit. Inwood again denied there was anything illegal in his vehicle. Penn asked Inwood to step out of the vehicle and conduct a search of both his vehicle and Inwood himself. Penn noted that Inwood was sweating profusely, despite the temperature being about 65 degrees.

During the search, $1,430 was found on his person and almost $2,000 was found in his car. Deputies also found a digital scale, two used glass pipes, packaging materials, and over 40 grams of a “white crystalline substance,” according to court documents.

After being read his Miranda rights, Inwood allegedly admitted the substance was methamphetamine. He denied selling the drug, but admitted to purchasing it in Idaho, according to the affidavit.

Due to the large amount of cash, methamphetamine, and packaging materials, Penn took Inwood into custody under suspicion of drug trafficking.

Inwood’s trial is set to start Sept. 12.
