PREP takes on Africa project
Five kids from PREP Alternative High School and Cindy Rogers, the local Americorps representative for the Lewis-Clark Service Corps division, have spearheaded a drive for school supplies. The project is in conjunction with the Newport/Priest River Rotary Club’s water well project in Kenya.

The city council Thursday night voted to approve the 1993 budget, which totals $789,662.

Scouts take 100-mile trip
Scout Robert Murray decided not to miss the opportunity for advancement, fun and new adventure, so joined his experienced brother, Brad, and Jules Edwards on a 100-mile canoe trek, Aug. 25 to 30, on the Kootenai River, from Troy, Mont. To the Canadian border. A total of 15 scouts and scoutmasters from Troops 600 and 137 combined goals in a determined effort to obtain some of the happy occurrences that life has for the ambitious and aggressive.

Auto Supply opened
Ken Lobdell and his brother-in-law, Arlyn Duncan, have opened an automobile parts business in the Dewey Huot building at the corner of High and Church streets.

185 are enrolled
There is an estimate of 185 students now attending the high school. The auditorium is in the process of completion.

Appointed chairman
Mrs. Martin Brudie has been appointed chairman of the Priest River United China Relief campaign, which is being conducted throughout the state. Gov. Chase A. Clark is honorary chairman of the state organization.

Death claims aged resident
T. H. Petersen, better known in Priest River as “Grandpa” Petersen, passed away at the Rockwood Clinic in Spokane Sept. 8, 1932, after contracting pneumonia. The deceased was a well-known citizen in this community and was loved by all with whom he came in contact. He was especially a friend of many of the boys in town, they confiding many secrets to him. He was born in Oslo, Norway, in I854, coming to this country with his father when he was 17. He and his family came to Spokane in 1917 and then to Priest River shortly thereafter.

High schooler drove the stage
Monday morning Lester Binkley, who has been driving the Nordman stage all summer, entered high school, and Everett Flemming went on the stage route. Mr. Fleming will drive the stage as long as the roads will permit using the truck.
