Lake City beats Bulldogs in hard-fought game

After winning the first set, the Bulldogs came close in each of the next three — and the match — to Lake City at home Tuesday, but ended up losing 25-22, 18-25, 20-25, and 19-25 at Les Rogers Court.
Sandpoint head coach Karen Alsager said the Bulldogs came out strong and took the first game from a talented and experienced Lake City team.
"I am seeing this volleyball team play better and better and better every time we come out on the court," Alsager said. "But I'm also seeing them doing small discipline things that are costing us games."
Alsager said the team has the talent and never-say-die determination to play — and defeat — the other teams.
After taking the first game 25-22, Sandpoint kept it close in the second before the Timberwolves slowly pulled away to win.
After a slow start in the third, the Bulldogs pulled close to come within three points before Lake City claimed the set.
The Bulldogs came out focused in the fourth set, digging the ball off the floor and tipped the ball over the net to take a 7-5 lead early in the game. The T'Wolves fought back, picking away and using a sustained drive to put the set and the game out of reach.
Aubree Lane had 20 digs to lead the Bulldogs. Vivian Platte had 15 kills and Hailey Roeder had 10 to lead the Bulldogs. Haley Swaim had two aces for the Bulldogs and 35 set assists. Leading the Bulldogs in blocks was Bella Moore with two.
The Bulldogs are scheduled to play the Trojans on Thursday at Post Falls.
