Free boater safety classes offered

Boating education saves lives.

Toward that end, the Bonner County Sheriff's Office is hosting a series of classes throughout the county, including Priest River, Clark Fork, Coolin, and Sandpoint.

Members of the Marine Division will cover topics such as boating laws, safe boating practices, safety equipment requirements, navigation, etiquette, and tips about local waterways.

All classes begin at 9 a.m. and will end by 3 p.m.

The first class will be held Saturday, April 22 at the BCSO Marine Building, 4001 N. Boyer Road.

In May, classes will be held May 5, Priest River Senior Center, 336 E. Jackson Ave., Priest River; May 13, BCSO Marine Building, 4001 N. Boyer Road; May 20, 4001 N. Boyer Road; and May 20, Filling Station Youth Center, 102 Main St., Clark Fork.

In June, classes will be held June 10, BCSO Marine Building, 4001 N. Boyer Road; June 17, Priest Lake groomer/ambulance building, 4677 Dickensheet Road, Coolin; and June 24, BCSO Marine Building.

In July, a class will be held July 8 at the BCSO Marine Building. In August, a class will be held Aug. 5 at the BCSO Marine Building.

A pair of evening classes are planned with participants needing to attend both classes to successfully complete the course. The classes, both held at the BCSO Marine Building, will be held from 6-9 p.m. on June 13-15.

Class size is limited and registration is required.
