Library district helping community make 'Natural Connections'

| August 4, 2023 1:00 AM

As fall creeps closer, the pace of programming at the library begins to change. You might see a few less events popping up on the calendar, but rest assured there’s still plenty to do at your library and around town!

Stop by the Clark Fork Library on Tuesday from 3 to 4 p.m. to make your very own buttons, using the library’s button making machine. This is a fun activity for people of all ages to create decorative pins and buttons as personalized style accents, campaigning for a cause and more! Don’t want to make buttons? Visit me at the Sandpoint Library from 5 to 7 p.m. to paint some miniatures. Level up your next D&D encounter and learn from an award-winning miniature painter in a casual group hangout where I share tips, tricks and techniques that I’ve learned to create truly legendary results in the craft.

If you’d prefer to write about your D&D character instead, stop by Sandpoint Storymakers at the same time. This is a community event led by a local author with a focus on exploring your creativity, challenging yourself and promoting accountability. If you’re looking for harsh critique, this is the wrong place to go. Peace, love and razor-sharp dragon’s teeth!

If you’re looking to check out virtual reality, the library is expanding its hours for VR for the month of August only. Mondays and Wednesdays, VR will be open for walk-ins from noon to 3 p.m. Thursday, VR will be open from 3 to 5 p.m., and Saturdays it will be open from 1 to 3 p.m. If you’re looking to make an appointment for an hour, send me an email and we can set up an appointment. Some of these experiences are fun and silly, some have some unique puzzles, and others produce gravity-defying results behind a flight stick and a driving wheel.

If you would like some outdoor programming, we’ve got what you’re looking for. Join Albeni Falls Rangers at the Sandpoint Library on Wednesday at 10:30 for Be Kind To Animals — learn about the importance of public lands and how the health of local wildlife impacts us all. I’ll also be stopping by the WaterLife Discovery Center on Lakeshore Drive on Friday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for another Science Walk event. Last time, we discovered loads of cool water insects!
