CLARK FORK — The final score doesn’t show how hard the Wampus Cats battled as Clark Fork lost 20-6 to Mullan/St. Regis in Friday’s football season-opener at Clark Fork High School.

The Wampus Cats were stopped on fourth and goal on two different occasions; the first time on the last play of the second quarter and the second, with under three minutes to go in the fourth.

After the first quarter, the score was knotted 0-0. Mullan/St. Regis could not take advantage of a promising first possession having committed four penalties (one declined) which cost them 25 yards. In the second quarter, Mullan got on the board first with a 52-yard receiving touchdown from quarterback Conner Louis to wide receiver John Pruitt. Clark Fork’s Jackson Clemens eventually tied things up with a rushing touchdown of his own, 6-6. Clemens had 17 carries, a touchdown, and 87 yards rushing on the night.

Later in the third, Mullan/St. Regis completed a 74-yard pass to put themselves on the 1-yard line. The drive was eventually capped off by a 7-yard rushing touchdown by Pruitt, 12-6. Early in the fourth quarter the Tigers took a 20-6 lead, thanks to another 53-yard receiving touchdown by Pruitt, who scored all three Mullan/St. Regis touchdowns.

Some other notable performances from Clark Fork were Chase Sanroman who had 16 carries for 54 yards; Dillon Ryan-Downing who had nine carries for 25 yards; and Evrett Montgomery who had an interception in the third quarter.

Clark Fork (0-1) will be back in action against Kootenai on Friday, August 25 at home.
