Vote for recall, end politicalization of schools

| August 22, 2023 1:00 AM

Growing up in Priest River has been something I have always valued. As an adult, I noticed that not everything is perfect, but what was always perfect in this town was how everyone respected the community and its members as a whole above all else.

The best thing about living here is that, while there are extreme views on both sides of the political spectrum in our country that imply our country is greatly divided, that’s not my town. What I experienced here is that someone’s political or religious beliefs were never the focal point of who a community member was in Priest River. Rather, it is whether that person is adamant about preserving Priest River history, that person gives their time volunteering for every cause, that business supports local causes, etc.

Politics do not belong in our schools or on our school board. I couldn't care less what religion or political party a trustee belongs to as long as their "first and greatest concern must be the educational welfare of the students attending the public schools." I hate what the recent politicalization of our school board has done, but I am proud that it has refreshed that uniting thread that we are a community first.

I hope everyone votes in favor of the recall and removes the politicalization of our schools, but above all, I respect everyone’s right to their opinions. I hope that everyone who reads this remembers to treat those on opposing sides kindly, as attacking a person never changes anyone or anything for the better.
