SANDPOINT 3, LAKE CITY 1

SANDPOINT — Sandpoint High School’s Les Rogers Courtwas electric on Thursday night as the Sandpoint girls volleyball team defeated Lake City for the first time in years in a thrilling four-set match. Sandpoint won all of their sets by just two points — 27-25, 25-23, 23-25, 27-25.

The Bulldogs set the tone early, immediately going up 8-2 in the first set. Lake City would eventually reclaim the lead, but unforced errors allowed Sandpoint to keep things close and capture the first set 27-25. The same could be said for the second set, where the Bulldogs led by as many as seven points, and again fended off a late Lake City run, 25-23.

Sandpoint led 16-11 at one point in the third set, but the Timberwolves wouldn’t go away easily. They clawed their way back into the game and came away with a two-point set win. In the fourth set, Sandpoint trailed 20-15 but some high-flying kills from seniors Aubree Lane and Vivian Platte got the Bulldogs right back into the game, 20-20. The Bulldogs would eventually secure the fourth set, 27-25 to win the match 3-1.

Platte had 15 kills, while senior Haley Swaim added 6 crucial aces. Overall, the Bulldogs out hustled the Timberwolves on every level.

“What we did tonight is huge steps for us as a program,” first-year head coach Piper Wahlin said. “... The goal was to come out and set a good tone for the season, and we did that, hands down.”

The Bulldogs (1-0) will be back in action on Saturday at the Judy Fong Memorial Tournament in Lewiston.

“Eloise hit really well tonight and played with great energy on defense,” head coach Lyndsie Kiebert-Carey said.

Some other notable statistics from Clark Fork’s three set victory include Ameri Printz-Hay who had a team-high three blocks and added 10 digs; Piper Scarlett, who had five kills and no kill errors; and Aurora Lane, who compiled five aces and eight assists.

“We started slow but got our groove going about halfway through the first set.” Kiebert-Carey said. “Once we were rolling, the girls were so fun to watch. Hannah Thompson and Nora Jean-Hoy stepped up and played big games on defense tonight as well.”

The Wampus Cats (1-0) will be back in action today against Noxon in Clark Fork High School gymnasium.
