Dec. 10, 1973 – SHS NEWS

Seniors in Mrs. Joy O’Donnell’s fifth period English class are preparing to write their research papers. They will be due in January, said Bev Wright, senior.

Some of George Marker’s history classes are holding mock trials based on the famed Dred Scott case of 1857. The classes are using actual court room proceedings, said Sue Chronic, class member.

Individual pencil sketches of art students’ hands is the newest attraction in Lee Anderson’s art class. Each student sketches several different positions of the hand, putting them together to form an abstract picture, reported Allison Gilmore, art student.

The S-Club is rewriting their constitution, said Mark Lyons, club president. Last week candy and pop were sold at athletic events, and will continue throughout basketball and wrestling season.

DISTRICT REACTS TO GAS SHORTAGE

The current gasoline shortage crunch has started to affect the Bonner County school district. Otis Hart, district transportation director, said ski buses and buses to athletic contests not held at Sandpoint High have been cancelled. Hart made these moves on the advice of the Standard Oil Co., the district’s gas supplier. Hart said any increase in the shortage could lead to the necessity of a four day school week, adding he is opposed to eliminating all extra-curricular activities as a solution to the problem.

CITY TO DRESS UP FOR CHRISTMAS

Sandpoint’s Christmas spirit will be noted this week end when work begins on decorating the business district. Local groups will work as one big, happy family in bedecking the streets to greet old Santa. Saturday the Senior Boy Scouts made a trip to the woods to cut the trees and greens for street trimmings. Today Kiwanis club has charge of putting trees at all light posts. The Jaycees have arranged for the usual large community tree to be erected on the cement apron between the Penney store and the new Carter Oil service building. The Mountain States Power crew will string festoons of colored lights and trim the community tree. The fire dept. will hang the big bell at the corner of First and Main.
