July 20, 1973 – 1973 JAMBOREE WEST

Tents are being erected in Farragut State Park for housing for 1973 Jamboree West. Over 35,000 Boy Scouts will begin to arrive July 30 from every state in the nation and from several foreign countries.

LOCALS PURCHASE FURNITURE STORE

Tri-Mor Corp., formed by three local men, Bob Farmin, Bob Nelson and Chuck Bonar, purchased Sandpoint Furniture Co. from Mr. and Mrs. John Hagadone, taking over operation of the veteran firm July 1. Farmin is store manager. The staff employed by the former owners has been retained, including Patty McDonnell, office; Richard Curtis, assistant manager; Ed Ham and Jim Holt, carpet specialists, and Bill Remmers, Formica inlay specialist.

EITZMAN APPOINTED TO CITY COUNCIL

Edward T. Eitzman, 306 Larch, was appointed to replace former Sandpoint city councilman Ron May, who resigned in June. Eitzman, a 14-year resident of the city, is Shell Oil distributor in the area. He and his wife Vivian have a son and daughter. A member of the United Methodist Church and past president of the Sandpoint Lions Club, Eitzman will attend his first meeting as a city council member on Aug. 13.

NEW SNACK BAR IN THEATER

Mr. and Mrs. Bill Currie, who run the Panida Theatre, have opened the Panida Snack Bar, open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tables are put away before movie time. Locals have already found the snack bar convenient. Mrs. Currie serves coffee, pop and doughnuts. There will be a grand opening Thursday.

July 20, 1948 – SEVERE HAILSTORM

A hailstorm accompanying a thunderstorm Sunday swept through the Vay and Woodfairie districts, doing considerable damage. Some gardens were destroyed, lettuce and corn were shredded and berry bushes were stripped of fruit. Tom Donahue lost his entire wheat crop, and there was a six-inch layer of hail around the Carl Hulquist home Monday morning. Logging roads were made impassable, roofs of buildings were badly damaged, and many home owners had to stop emergency leaks during the height of the storm. Heavy rainfall Monday night caught many farmers with hay down.

CUTTHROAT BITING OFF KOOTENAI POINT

A weight limit of cutthroat trout was taken by E.F. Schmidt, Sandpoint, in a short time Wednesday while trolling between the city dock and Kootenai point. The fish each weighed 1½ pounds or more and were caught about one-half mile offshore.

LUCILLE COCHRAN WED

Lucille Cochran, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.B. Cochran, Sandpoint, and David Miller, son of Mrs. Amy Miller, Kootenai, were married at Newport July 11. They left immediately for Warm Springs, Ore., where he is employed.
