June 20, 1973 – KOA SWIMMING LESSONS

For the last two weeks, 44 children have taken part in daily swimming lessons at the KOA Campground in Sagle. Dishing out knowledge of the aquatic sport is 16-year-old Carol Mahler, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lee Mahler, who will be a junior in high school next fall. She teaches nine sessions a day with 15 minutes of free swim and 30 minutes of lessons. Her average class size is six students.

QUALITY AUTO BODY SETS OPEN HOUSE

Quality Auto Body at 315 S. Ella, just off Superior Street in Sandpoint, will hold open house Friday, after completing a building expansion project this spring that has doubled its work space. New asphalt paving at the shop entrance put the finishing touches to the building project that increased shop space to 3700 sq. ft. The staff at Quality Auto Body includes owner Loyal D. Amstutz, his brother-in-law Robert Melton, and Ron Nixon. All are skilled in the various demands of quality auto body repair.

ADDITION TO LAKESIDE MOTEL

Opening this month is a $90,000 addition to Lakeside Motel in Sandpoint [east side of Sand Creek at Bridge St.] Owner Arnold E. Critchlow said the addition contains 16 units, a conference room and lobby, increasing the Motel’s total capacity to 32 units. The addition is of all-wood construction and was designed to blend into the area’s environment.

June 20, 1948 – NICE CATCH OF CHAR!

M.J. Schneider, Bill Johnson and Art Cash caught 22 Dolly Varden Saturday fishing with salmon eggs from the Northern Pacific bridge at Sandpoint. The largest one weighed slightly over four pounds. On Sunday the fishermen tried again, catching 21 more Dollies. Some cutthroats have also been caught below and above the bridge using salmon eggs.

OUTDOOR BAND CONCERT FRIDAY

There will be an outdoor band concert Friday at 7:15 p.m. on the Farmin school lawn by the summer band, composed of both junior and senior band members, announced Walter Snodgrass, director. All townspeople who play band instruments and are interested in playing in the concert should attend a rehearsal tonight at 7:00 p.m. at the high school.

CELEBRATION WHEN STREETS FINISHED

Plans for a two-day celebration and retail sales event when Sandpoint’s street paving project is completed early in August were discussed at the Chamber of Commerce board of directors meeting. Details will be worked out by a special committee.

MRS. HOLZ HEADS CIVIC CLUB COUNCIL

At last week’s Civic club executive meeting, Mrs. Walter Holz was elected president and Mrs. S. Holderness, secretary, of the executive council. Mrs. L.G. Spangle was elected representative to Bonner county’s home demonstration advisory council.
