Throughout July, the Pend Oreille Arts Council is hosting adult art classes at their Joyce Dillon Studio.

The hands-on workshops at JDS, 110 Main St., offer a variety of methods and mediums that are tailored to both the seasoned artist and those just beginning to hone their creative skills.

Classes are limited to ten students, so it’s important to sign up right away so you don’t miss out on the one that suits you. Your time investment is minimal, as most classes last between four and five hours. What could be better than taking home your finished project while still enjoying the summer fun?

Detailed information and registration can be found at POAC’s website, www.artinsandpoint.org. But don’t wait, two classes are coming up quickly.

T Kurtz is teaching a class in basic impressions in soft pastels on July 7 and the deadline to register is July 2. Patricia Barkley’s class on how to make stained glass dragonflies on July 8 and the registration deadline is July 3.

If you’re looking for a sketching adventure, you’ll want to take the Urban Sketching workshop with Barry Burgess. This is a two-day, four-hour each, tour and sketch of an “architecturally and historically significant” Sandpoint building to be held on July 11 and 13. The deadline to register for this class is July 5.

On July 12, Julie Ellis is teaching a workshop on making chimes from recycled materials. On the 13th, Lee Ann Bonn’s students will create a unique piece of three-dimensional art with driftwood and mixed media.

Dave Gonzo is teaching how to create copper/metal ladles on July 15. This class is for those interested in learning the skills of working with hot metal.

Jenni Barry is teaching the Japanese art form, Kimekomi, on July 21 which involves tucking fabric pieces into a base to create a painting look-alike.

Then on July 26, Elizabeth Peterson is repeating her very popular class which produces watercolor paintings on postcards that can then be mailed to your friends and family.

Pend Oreille Arts Council facilitates quality cultural experiences in Bonner County through visual and performing arts programs. For more information about POAC and its events, or to learn how to get involved, go to artinsandpoint.org.
