Sandpoint falls to Cd'A in regular season finale

SANDPOINT — Sandpoint tennis came up on the wrong side of a close match against Coeur d’Alene on Monday, losing 7-5 at Travers Park.

The loss snapped the Bulldogs’ 11-match win streak — just before district championships, which are set to be held Thursday, May 11 and Saturday May, 13. Singles matches will be held at Lakeland High School and doubles matches will be held at Lake City High School.

Four of the 12 matches on Monday went to three sets. On the girls side, Neva Reseska came back after losing her first set to win the No. 1 singles match 2-6, 6-3, 10-4. Sydney Webb and Aubrey Knowles, who have now won multiple matches that have gone to three sets this year, defeated their opponents 7-5, 2-6, 12-10 in one of the longest doubles matches of the day.

Maisie Brazill also notched a victory in girls singles winning 6-2, 6-1. Patch Howard and Maile Evans completed the sweep in girls doubles in a dominant 6-2, 6-2 win.

In mixed doubles, Owen Larson and Adrain Doty, one of Sandpoint’s newly formed duos, picked up another win in three sets 6-3, 4-6, 10-8. Fisher Dail and Berkley Cox competed in the last three-set match of the day and were defeated by a slim margin 6-7, 6-4, 11-9.

The Bulldogs struggled on the boys side against a strong Coeur d’Alene team. Sandpoint was not able to capture a win in any of the singles or doubles matches. Both of the boys doubles teams came the closest in 6-4, 6-3 losses.
