Nov. 7, 1973 – BGH PIN PRESENTATIONS

Two awards for 15 years of service highlighted the Bonner General Hospital Employees Association pin presentation Friday at the old hospital. Receiving the 15-year service pins were Cora Weinand and Kaye Harris. Barbara Blood made a comment about each recipient; Lola Christofferson did the pinnings. Receiving five-year pins were Mary Ann Clary, Ruth Bradetich, Nadine Walson, Jewel McCoy, Avery Perkins, Nick Mussato, Dottie Ihley, Sally Schatz, and Jerri Stockman. Getting 10-year pins were Jean Leckner, Ruth Beauchamp, Veldonna Osborn, Willie Chapman, Evelyn Snedden and Helen Weinand.

GT PROMOTES D. HARBISON

General Telephone Co. of the Northwest’s Sandpoint District has promoted Durell Harbison to lineman. Harbison joined GT in 1970 as temporary lineman and has held other positions as storekeeper and supplyman. The Harbisons and their two children live in Ponderay.

SHS STUDENT PLAYS BEFORE 8,000

Cornel Rasor, 17-year-old Sandpoint High School senior, played the piano before nearly 8,000 people at the National Future Farmers of America convention in Kansas City last Friday. Not only was that the largest audience he has ever played for, it was only his second public performance – and the first was when he was just eight years old. Everything went off without a hitch, though, because “I was too scared to make a mistake.”

Nov. 7, 1948 – HOLIDAY PROCLAIMED

Mayor Don Diehl has officially proclaimed Armistice day, November 11, a holiday in Sandpoint. Schools in the city will be closed that day. Major entertainment of the day will be the football game here between Sandpoint and Bonners Ferry.

PYE TO HEAD COMMITTEE

Fred Pye, [428 S. Huron], proprietor of Pye’s General Supply [223 Cedar, later the home of Riccardo’s Pizza], has been named chairman of the Retail Merchants committee of the Sandpoint Chamber of Commerce for 1949, it was announced today by Bud Benoit, newly-elected president.

MRS. BRICKER AND SON TAKE OVER HOME 

Mrs. Beulah Bricker and her son, Claude Morton, last week took over management of the Old People’s home at 602 N. Fourth [In 2023, known as The Amanda Nesbitt House]. The home has been operated for the past several years by Mrs. Robert Young. There are at present 12 inmates. Mrs. Bricker has lived in the city for the past 15 years.

ENGAGEMENT ANNOUNCED

Mrs. E.A. Henderson announces the engagement of her youngest daughter, Crystal, to Leo Hadley, son of Mr. and Mrs. Mel Grinolds, of this city. The wedding will be Nov. 20 at the Presbyterian church.
