Humphrey drops 19 in loss to Kellogg

KELLOGG — Junior Desi Humphrey scored 19 points for the Spartans in a loss to the Wildcats in the first round of 2A District 1-2 tournament at Andrews Gymnasium.

Sam Pound added six, Helena White and Aleigha Jensen, two each for Priest River.

Macy Jerome led Kellogg with 19 points.

Humphrey drains six 3-pointers in win over Maniacs

Priest River 50, Orofino 40

NEWPORT — Junior Desi Humphrey hit six 3-pointers, four in the fourth quarter, to lift the Spartans over the Maniacs in the loser-out game of the 2A District 1-2 tournament held at Newport High.

Priest River slowly built their lead over the course of the game, outscoring Orofino in every quarter by just one basket.

Humphrey finished the game with 18 points and five rebounds. Pavin Coleman added nine points, six assists and three steals. Lizzie McCracken scored nine while Paityn Yount had seven points and eight rebounds for Priest River.

Jaelyn Miller scored 13 points, Livia Johnson 12 points and 10 rebounds for Orofino. Sierra Tondevold also reached double-figures with 11 points of her own.

Spartans almost pull off upset of Kellogg

KELLOGG — Lizzie McCracken led Priest River with nine points as the Spartans fell to Kellogg in the second-third place game of the 2A District 1-2 tournament held at Andrews Gymnasium. 

Trailing 37-20 with approximately four minutes remaining in the game, Priest River managed to finish things out on an 11-2 run. The rally was just a tad too late as the Wildcats were able to hold on for the victory.

Desi Humphrey added eight points and seven rebounds while Pavin Coleman had three points, four rebounds and four steals for the Spartans. Freshman Jordyn Stutzke led the Wildcats with 16 points.

Prior to this contest, Priest River and Kellogg matched up three times, with the Spartans falling by an average of 25 points per game. The eight-point loss to the Wildcats shows that the Spartans truly gave it their all in their final contest of the season.

Priest River finished the season with an 11-9 record. Based on reported games, it’s the most wins the Spartans have had since the 2015-2016 season when the team had 14.
