Geezer Forum being held today

| February 13, 2024 1:00 AM

SANDPOINT — Dementia and brain health will again be the focus of today's Geezer Forum.

Speaking at the Feb. 13 talk is Dr. Meg Skybitsky, a new geriatrician in the community. Skybitsky had been scheduled to speak at the January meeting but a winter storm forced cancelation of the program.

Geriatricians are called to look at persons more holistically as opposed to those with designated organ focus, like specialties like cardiology, neurology, or orthopedics.

The forum will be held from 2:30 to 4 p.m. in the community room of Umpqua Bank, 414 Church St., in Sandpoint.

Skybitsky will focus on two important functions of growing older: brain health and its impact on dementia symptoms.

Brain health is essential for different reasons: like healthy brains let individuals maintain their independence and actively participate in living their lives as they want.

Working on brain health doesn’t guarantee someone won’t get dementia symptoms. But good brain health can reduce, or postpone, the possible onset of those symptoms.
