4A DISTRICT 1-2 BOYS WRESTLING: Five Bulldogs take home district titles

SANDPOINT — Andrew Duke (126), Ashlei Hawkins (132), Shane Sherrill (138), Jackson Holman (182), and Jorden Tyler (195) all won district titles after sweeping their respective weight classes at the 4A Inland Empire League District 1-2 Championship held at Les Rogers Court Friday afternoon.

Duke, Sherrill, Holman, and Tyler pinned all of their opponents en route to gold. 

Duke pinned Kutter O’Brien of Lakeland (1:04) in the semifinal and Griffin Tamagni of Lakeland (3:25) in the championship match. Sherrill pinned Jayden Terry of Lakeland (1:29) in the semifinal and Sam Young of Moscow (1:51) in the championship match. Holman pinned teammate Dakota Rief (1:12) in the semifinal and Gage Oles of Lakeland (5:14) in the championship match. Tyler pinned his sole opponent, teammate Jeremiah Palmer (5:43) in the championship match.

Hawkins won by way of two decisions. In the semifinal, he defeated Justin Baxter of Lakeland by an 11-5 decision. In the championship match, he won by a 14-5 major decision over Cole Cooper of Lakeland.

Carter Happell (106), Aidan Rork (113), Jeremiah Palmer (195), and Gavin Walters (285) all placed second, Charlie Becker (160) third for the Bulldogs.

Sandpoint will head to the 2024 IHSAA Boys State Championship set to be held Friday, Feb. 23, at the Ford Idaho Center in Nampa.
