SANDPOINT — Sandpoint senior Parker Childs led the charge with a game-high 18 points as the Bulldogs defeated Genesis Prep 75-28 in a nonleague match at Les Rogers Court on Friday night.

Sandpoint led from the first basket of the night on, building their lead throughout the contest. After leading by 13 at the end of the first quarter, the Bulldogs continued to dominate, eventually leading 42-9 at the half. It was smooth sailing from there on out.

“I know we recognized Parker tonight, but hopefully he is far from being done," head coach Brian Childs said about his son. "He's grown up around it; we are a basketball family. We always have been and we probably always will be. This is my 26th year coaching and he has been tagging along since he could walk ... I feel like he has done a lot for this program. He came in as a sophomore and didn't know what to expect and ended up having a nice year that year, making it to the district championship and then being named All-League."

After his sophomore year, Parker continued to lead the Bulldogs throughout his career ... not just on the court, but off the court as well.

"I'm just real proud of him," coach Childs said. "He has certainly spent a ton of time working at it over the years. The finality of it is starting to set in, so I'm hoping there's a little urgency with that ... I think I'm most proud of how he has helped our younger players. He's done a good job of mentoring them in a way and with welcoming our freshman. It's not easy for a freshman to come in and play varsity. Parker leads both verbally and by example. As a dad, I'm awfully proud of him, and as a coach, I feel fortunate to coach kids like that."

In addition to his 18 points, Childs added four steals and three assists to the stat sheet. Emerik Jones (15) and Knox Williams (10) also reached double-figures on the evening. Derrick Chamberlain hauled in a game-high 10 rebounds while Luke Leavitt dished out a game-high four assists. Senior Evan Taylor scored five out of the Bulldogs’ nine fourth quarter points, drilling a 3-pointer and a fadeaway jumper in the corner near the end of the game.

Taylor, who is the team's manager, got a chance to show off his skills on the varsity level Friday night against the Jaguars.

"E.T. has been a part of the program for the last three years," coach Childs said. "He loves being around basketball; he has been invaluable to us. He's at practice everyday and takes his job seriously. He does a fantastic job and I think that's credit to type of kid he is. I have been thinking about this moment for awhile ... when he let that three go, I was right behind him and I knew it was going in."

Sandpoint (9-9, 1-4) will look to keep things rolling when Moscow comes to town Tuesday.
